Levee Operations & Maintenance

In the summer of 2023, PRFMA took over the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of all flood control infrastructure along both sides of the lower Pajaro River and its tributaries, Salsipuedes and Corralitos Creeks, within Santa Cruz and Monterey Counties.

PRFMA is responsible for maintaining:

·         24 miles of levees

·         12 miles of channels

·         15 pump stations

·         85 culverts

Maintenance activities include – among other things – erosion repairs (rock and rip rap), vegetation management, rodent control, pump station and flap gate operations and repairs, soil compaction, environmental and federal permitting, reporting, and compliance, and patrolling the levees when water levels are high.
